Live brief hosted by Penguin Books to redesign a cover for John Le Carré's The Night Manager.
A deliberate essence of distorted abstraction can be noticed here, reminiscent of themes seen within The Night Manager. A large rectangular form withholds key presence obscuring background layers, the same way that truths are hidden and covered up in the novel. Achieved through overprinting, I continued until the section became completely covered up, completely but imperfectly. Rough edges and semi-transparent sections propose the idea of a background story, representing a key theme in the novel.
Visual experiments leading up to this outcome are documented below.
Distorted typography created to reflect the theme of unclear truths and visual disorientation.
An initial mock-up produced to envision product placement, reflecting upon the way in which visual elements would collaboratively transcribe meaning to a viewer/ audience.
